Mineral Water?

I have had friends drink mineral water and swear that it is the greatest stuff ever! That it decreases their appetite, etc etc. But when I try to drink it, I feel like it is burning my throat. This could not be an allergic reaction could it? Though because after I finish swallowing the feeling goes away untill I take another drink. (P.S. yes I know I should go to a doctor, but as long as I stay away from mineral water I think I should be fine, but I do not want to waste my money to go ask the doctor a silly question that I am just mearly curious about.)
