Juanita Ruby asked:
With bottled water and filtered water quickly becoming a staple of the American diet, people are certainly looking for a good source of pure drinking water. What many people do not understand is that bottled water has far fewer regulations governing its purity than even tap water. The bottled water out there that has been purified often has the minerals removed from it as well. Science is showing with alarming continuity, however, that the best water is pure drinking mineral water.
You may wonder why you would want to have minerals in your water when so many ads tell you that pure water contains nothing at all but simple h20. Here is the truth. While it is very important to drink water that is free of chemicals such as chlorine, natural water contains traces of minerals such as potassium and magnesium that are essential for our bodies. Continually drinking water that has had these minerals removed creates an imbalance within the body that can be corrected by drinking a pure drinking mineral water. The Ralph Nader Research Group has found that tap water contains more than 2100 cancer-causing chemicals. This number should ring the bells of alarm within each of us. Pure drinking water removes these chemicals.
Both bottled water and tap water have numerous chemicals that can make adults ill, so it becomes painfully obvious that this water poses a real damage to children and to infants who drink formula made with this water. Former EPA administrator William Reilly stated that tap water is actually one of the top four environmental health risks facing the population of the United States every day. While these facts may scare you, and rightfully so, they can also inform you. By simply using pure drinking mineral water, you can significantly reduce the risks to your health from the water you drink.
Pure drinking water can be inexpensive, as low as nine cents per gallon, and the health benefits can be endless. By leaving the minerals in your water even after the chemicals are removed, you can go even farther to increase the health of your body and your family. Pure drinking mineral water is by far the safest option out there, and is actually far more cost efficient than bottled water. While general filter pitchers are wonderful and certainly make your water safer than drinking straight from the tap, a home water filter system can provide you a level of safety that is unmatched. With pesticides showing up in the majority of natural water sources around the globe, it has become almost impossible to find naturally occurring pure drinking water.

Desert Hot Springs , California - Palm Springs offers the character of boutiques and cafes, it doesn’t have a hot spring to speak of (just a weak little one on Indian land). Palm Desert and the other down-valley communities have golf courses and lavish resorts, but they don’t have scalding mineral springs, like Desert Hot Springs.
Ancient geothermal forces spawned a vast aquifer 100 feet below the earth’s surface, filled with rich mineral water naturally heated to 180 degrees. These storied waters, said to have provided habitat to wildlife and sustained Native American peoples, are believed to hold powerful curative powers. A legacy of miracles is helping to fuel the dynamic community renaissance, now underway in Desert Hot Springs.
The water comes out of the ground at between 140 and 160 degrees. It is cooled down with cold-spring water, and many of the resorts , large or small, have a soaking pool at about 105 degrees, another in the high 90s and a swimming pool in the high 80s. Spa treatments are offered just about everywhere, from massages to wraps to mud facials to Watsu pool therapy.
It’s very easy to submerge into this world of profound relaxation and never want to resurface again.
Speaking of H2O, although cities throughout the West struggle to procure and provide safe and adequate drinking water, Desert Hot Springs has been tapped as having some of the best-tasting water in the world. At the international Berkeley Springs Water Tasting and Competition, the same water served domestically in the City of Desert Hot Springs by Mission Springs Water District, has taken five medals in eight years of competition. With two gold, two silver, and one bronze, it has become obvious that there is no water in the west like the water in Desert Hot Springs.
The Hoteliers Association of Desert Hot Springs represents small inns ranging in aesthetics from minimalist to naturalist, to the larger, resort-style properties with complete spa amenities. Desert Hot Springs health and wellness niche is one of the fastest-growing sectors of the hospitality industry.

David Karlson asked:
Water is essential to life. Our bodies consist of up to seventy percent water. Without it, we will die. Many people insist that mineral water is healthy and that we must drink it in order to provide our bodies with essential nutrients and vitamins. It is obvious that this beverage is good for you. Specific scientific studies indicate that we do not receive a significant positive result from drinking this water.
Mineral water is healthy compared to flavored drinks that contain copious amounts of sugar and artificial flavor. Drinking this type of water does offer no negative side effects. In the United States, they are not allowed to do any advertising that promotes mineral water as being good for your health. Even though this type of water may be good for you, it is debatable as to how much of the minerals we actually absorb into our body.
Some mineral waters are high in sodium; these should be avoided by anyone that suffers from high blood pressure. If you drink natural mineral water h2o, then there is really no reason for you to stop drinking it. One obvious benefit to drinking this water or any water that is clean and safe is that there are no calories in it all.
Natural mineral water h2o contains many different minerals such as zinc, magnesium, iron, potassium and calcium. On the down side, you will find some mineral water that contains sodium as we mentioned earlier. If you happen to drink this type of water that higher levels of sulphates, you will find yourself experiencing the effects of a laxative.
In conclusion, when you are deciding on a particular natural mineral water to try, compare the milligrams per liter of the minerals contained. The minerals in question are nitrates, aluminum, sodium and sulphates. Consuming too much of these minerals is not considered to be good for your health. As stated previously, this type of water is safe to drink just be careful of the amounts of the particular minerals contained in the water.

Water Coolers Direct asked:
How do we taste water?
As we all know taste is one of the five senses, it refers to the ability to detect the flavour of substances. Taste receptors are found on the surface of the tongue and are essentially a network of complex chemical sensors designed to detect specific types of compounds within our food and drink. In humans the sense of smell impacts on the sense of taste and factors in on the brain’s perception of flavour.
MYTH 1: This bottled water tastes so pure
It’s a myth that humans can taste pure H20; pure water cannot react to the sensors found on the tongue as pure H20 contains no compounds, people would still be able to feel the pressure and detect the temperature but no taste will be present. It is only when water contains contaminants that tastes and smells (which can then impact on the perceived taste) may be detected. By its very nature then any type of water that tastes of anything is not pure. The content of water itself can be complex and vary from area to area, depending on the compounds picked up from the rocks and soils that it passes through before it reaches the customer.
MYTH 2: Chilled water tastes better
The fact is that chilled water has even less taste than water that is luke warm, which is an interesting point as many prefer their water chilled. It raises the question of why people think that chilled bottled water tastes as good, because chilling the water impedes the tongues sensors and prevents an individual tasting the very impurities that give bottled water its taste.
MYTH 3: Tap water tastes terrible and can’t be good for me
In the UK chlorine is added to the tap water to ensure that the supply is food grade quality 24/7. The presence of chlorine along with other impurities can have an adverse effect on the taste and smell of mains supplied water.
FACT 1: The taste of Mains water can be improved
There are a wide range of water filters on the market today, under sink filters for the home or office kitchen and filters that are housed in the desktop or freestanding water cooler style machines. Activated Carbon based filters are normally sufficient to remove the bad tastes and odours from the UK mains water supply and usually last for up to 6 months at a time.
Considered to be one of the oldest means of water purification Activated Carbon has been used to filter water for hundreds of years. Carbon filtering works by removing contaminants and impurities, utilizing chemical absorption. By its very nature carbon provides a large section of surface area that attracts and holds a wide range of contaminants. Activated Carbon has a positive charge designed to attract even more (negatively charged) contaminants in your water supply. It should be noted that although carbon is effective at removing elements that cause bad taste such as chlorine and sediment it does not generally remove minerals, salts, and dissolved inorganic compounds from the water.
Another method of improving the taste of your mains water is to chill the water down to a point where the taste and smell become reduced, perhaps by storing dispensed water in your fridge for a few hours.
FACT 2 Mains water is cheaper than bottled water
It doesn’t take a mathematician to work out that bottled water is expensive, a typical 19 Litre Water Cooler Bottle costs £5.50 where as 19 Litres of metered water costs only £ 0.023.
FACT 3 Mains water is better for the environment
If you opt for a Plumbed in Water Cooler you will be helping to reduce the cost of bottle production and delivery. While bottled water accounts for only a small percentage of an individual’s carbon emissions it’s important for businesses and individuals to do all that they can to reduce their carbon footprint. Bottled Coolers have an obvious additional effect on the environment in terms of the initial production, the delivery and the disposal of the bottles.

Why is it bottled mineral water is more expensive than softdrink?
Filed Under mineral water | 9 Comments
Pi[x]eR asked:
If we base on the cost of production (the raw materials and production process), it’s evident that softdrinks are more costly to produce than bottled water. But how come in our supermarkets and retail stores bottled water are more expensive than softdrinks (both products produced by the same company)? In my place, the price of a bottled water is 20% higher than the softdrink with the same quantity. This kind of pricing is also the same with other companies. In my thoughts, probably they have this pricing strategy to promote softdrinks which is really their main product. Any other opinions. Thanks.
